After winning a Razzie award for "Worst Actress", Sandra Bullock patiently waited until this past Sunday, when she could rejoice as the reigning "Best Actress" as well. Bullock beat out several other fine actresses including 15-time nominee Meryl Streep, to win the award for her role in "The Blind Side".
The two actresses had previously tied at another awards show, and even engaged in a Sandra Bullock Meryl Streep kiss on stage, but Sunday night was a solo win for Bullock. She claimed the lead actress award all to herself and seemed shocked by the win. The Sandra Bullock acceptance speech made for one of the true highlights of the Oscar winners list in 2010.
On stage Bullock asked "Did I really earn this or did I just wear you all down?" She thanked all of those wonderful actors and actresses she's worked with, and looked forward to working with many more of them in the future. In the emotional moment of her speech, Bullock thanked her mother for instilling the workaholic nature in her to practice, practice, practice.
In reference to her mother, Bullock closed with "She said to be an artist, you had to practice every day, and for reminding her daughters that there's no race, no religion, no class system, no color, nothing, no sexual orientation that makes us better than anyone else. We are all deserving of love. So, to that trailblazer, who allowed me to have that. And this. And this. I thank you so much for this opportunity that I share with these extraordinary women and my lover Meryl Streep. Thank you."
Her references to Meryl Streep piqued the curiousity of many viewers as she also mentioned the Sandra Bullock Meryl Streep kiss that went down at the Critics' Choice movie awards. The liplock occurred on stage after both actresses won the award for Best Actress, and shared a passionate moment together. Bullock noted how good a kisser Meryl Streep was during part of her on-stage speech at the Oscars.
So now with her Best Actress award, Sandra Bullock has become one of the hottest commodities in all of Hollywood. As noted on Showbiz Tonight, Bullock was already amongst the A-listers but has entered the stratosphere now, and will likely find the offers pouring in for future movie roles.Check out the Sandra Bullock acceptance speech for her Best Actress Oscar here at the Oscars website.
